Six injured in JHB train accident

JOHANNESBURG – There has been a train accident in Doornfontein, east of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg emergency services say six people have been injured after a Metrorail train derailed on its way from park station this afternoon.

When paramedics arrived on the scene part of the train had come off the rails.

Spokesperson Nana Radebe said, “There are six patients who were taken to hospital with minor injuries.”

Metrorail says its train services have been delayed by at least two hours following the accident.

The operator says it is not yet certain what caused the accident but technicians are on the scene.

Spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng said, “All trains from Springs, Leralla, Pretoria and Daveyton are running late.”
